I looked at some new steering boxes, Ford #8C3Z-3504-ARM, and they aren't as expensive as I was expecting. Shipping included, they run $350-$400 for a new Ford part. Question is, would a new steering box still have that play in it? My truck has just short of 150,000 miles on it so some wear should be expected but I would really hate to replace it with a new one and not see any improvement.

So I made a short trip, one hour there, one hour back, and the drumming is still there. Not as strong as before, but darn annoying. I may have mentioned this above, but it is worse when I am in a sustained left hand turn like in a highway curve. I've ordered a universal joint and I am going to see if that helps. Everything I've done so far has helped the symptoms. i hope this addresses the source. It has a seven day delivery so I'll see you in a week.
