My other thinking is that no matter the options, the ride height won't be that different since the reason there are so many spring choices is to account for the different weights of different options and not have every vehicle on the lot look different. In my old trucks catalogs (48-56), there are at least 3 different front and rear spring sets available just for 1/2 ton trucks, and they weren't nearly as picky about these things back then as they were in the 60's and especially today. I know with Mustangs in the 60's they had probably a dozen spring choices, and different front springs if you had a/c or not, everything else being the same.
I scanned a few relevant pages. The 1961-1964 F100 2WD had two front springs rates of 1,000 and 1,100 lb. The 1,100 was optional but included with the Heavy-Duty Equipment Package. It was also recommended as the replacement spring for the long wheelbase trucks if not originally equipped with them.
Wow this is good info. Makes sense for the way this pickup was ordered. Everything on it is in the listed HD package.. What is funny is it is a SWB. But the father in law had his own way of doing things.
TA I got curious today and it was warm here in Montana and I decided to clean up one of my other 2 16 inch wheels. I found 16x5 with a K on them and in the same area was 4 and a 63. Is it safe to assume manufacture date of April 63? And on the front was Ford script in oval an KH for Kelsey Hayes. This wheel is darn good may get it powder coated and mount a tire on it for under the bed spare. My 6th 16 inch wheel has the lug holes wobbled out and someone attempted a repair by welding them up. and tapering the holes. Not a quality job by any way shape or form. Do you know of any shop or company that can repair steel wheel lug holes?
Yes, sounds like April 1963. I've used my TIG welder to clean up the holes or dings in the edges of the rim before powder coat, but I haven't had to deal with anything too extreme, so I've never looked into anyone doing that.
TA, Lots of interesting information for sure !
Not attempting to steal the OP subject, but only a slight diversion.. In the first page, right side, under Engine Equipment, it lists "Oil Filter, Luber-Finer" and it weighs an extra 50lbs (!) What is this ?????? I'd guess a side-stream, by-pass oil filtration system for a BIG truck..??
Well I decided to order new rear springs because of the sag on one side. I went with the Eaton Detroit springs because all the research I did steered me in that direction. Good reviews for their springs and bad reviews for springs that were half and more of Eatons price. They will be here Monday so I am getting ready to put them in.
