2011 Navigator poor idle after engine flush
My mechanic recommended an engine flush to see if a sticky lifter might be freed and quiet the tapping noise on my 5.4. It didn't, but a lot of crud came out of that flex fuel engine.
I realized, too late, that in the same way a flush might be a bad idea for an old transmission of uncertain service history an engine flush might cause problems instead of fix them. My 216k, noisy engine still ran quite smooth. Less than 5 miles after the flush it started with the poor idling. It's favorite trick now is to quit when shifting from drive to reverse. What happened?
