Hey guys, I just bought a new to me 05 Regular cab 4x4 flareside from a co-worker. I couldn't pass the deal up because I only paid $3750 with only 150k and he drove like an old old grandpa. He did even know it had a warped rotor that's how slow he drove. With that being said it has a couple minor issues but for what I plan on using it for it will work great. Anyway, does anyone know where I can get a bed step for it? I'm not fat but I have a hard time getting in the bed with bad knees. I wanted a Amp Research bed step but all I get is they started making them for 06 and above. Is a 05 and 06 that much different to where it wouldn't fit on a 05?
I saw a white one just yesterday hauling 2x4s from Lowe's. He was following closely a red Styleside with a load of 2x6s and both had some plywood on top of their loads of lumber. Loads were loaded in over the tailgate being up, but both had red flags too. When they slowed to turn, I seen they were together.
I remember seeing a fold down bed step on one, was below the molded in side step ... I even considered them, but did not buy after all. Ford last made the Flareside in 2009 I think. After lowering the truck a couple inches, I found it easier to reach over into the bed as 2 inches lower reduced up and over bed side to bed reach by 4 inches. I have seen those tailgate ladders too, but with the bed cover I never have crawled into the bed with a need to stand up. I just stay seated in there, then slide out feet first. I've had mine since 2009.
Loads that I don't or can't put under the bed cover go in my '77 or my trailer. I have used the '07 for trashcans, but I support the bed cover up in back.
I also spent some time one cold winter making a strong cargo net to keep things near the tailgate, like gas cans or groceries, etc.
It has a floor section of a cut drop in, on top of Line-X which is gritty.
