I'm going to be getting a bed for my truck tomorrow and am curious to know if anyone knows what it weighs. It's off of an '83 with an 8' bed and no tailgate. I'm trying to figure out how many people i need to help me pick this mother up.
I took the bed off my 67 Chevy stepside, and put it on later by using a come-along from a tree branch. I put sticks in the four tube ends of that bed and tied ropes to make an "X" using one nylon stap in each leg so I could adjust it to hang level. You could either hook under the inner lip or those holes in the stake pockets. It worked easy and slick, no problems (once I remembered to unhook the license light)
Depending on where your putting it. I've removed them by myself by removing one wheel, jacking up the box 6 inches or so, set 10 foot 4x4's under the box and lifted up on the other side with another 4x4 and slid it off. It should follow the 10 footers down towards the ground. From there it all depends. I have a wheeled bench that I made that I jack up the box onto jackstands and then slide the bench underneath. and roll it away. However, friends are worth their weight in gold at times like these. Also I'd suggest you use a scrap chunk of carpeting to stuff between the cab and box to prevent scratches.
Well it's going from a stock 4x2 83 onto my '85 4x4, 4" lift on 35's. Thinking a piece of plywood and a couple 2x's oughta help out alot. Either that or a block and tackle if there's an overhead branch to use.

That's what i said Basically it has to be lifted 12" to be level with my bed, and then another 18 to be ontop of it, plus the foot the 4x2 is off teh ground. If noting else i could throw the stocker tires on, that way we'd only have to lift it an additional 16 inches vs. 20. Big whoop, it's gonna be a PITA either way. oh well, what do i expect for $25?
But I'm not messing around with this, loaded up my torch set, a 3lb sledge, and a cold chisel tonight. No reason to try to muscle these things out, they've only been rusted in place for 21 years
My old chevy's boards were bad enough gone so I just chewed them out with a wrecking bar, then used my 36" bolt cutters to snip all the bolts off. Was very easy. Hey, if you know anyone who has a set of those jacks that lift campers off pickups to store them at drive-away height, they would work great. Drive one out, the other under!

That is a really good idea EXCEPT, i don't think this guy wants my bed at his house. Ya know, that is the whole point of him selling his Might be a good idea for when i get it home to put it on though.
