Difference in trans temp readings

I have a trans temp sensor hooked up to my three and one glow shift Gauge on my 2000 F2 50. I hooked it up to for scan today for the first time and the trans temperature as read by fore scan is about 20° warmer at all times than what my gauge reads, where does foreskin get the reading for trans temp? Which should I believe and yeah ik glow shift gauges are cheap 😂

The factory transmission fluid temperature sensor is on the solenoid pack just inside the pan. If your gauge prope is in the usual location, drivers side midship, I believe that is post cooler fluid . If so that may be the reason for the discrepancy.

In looking for some information about the test port I ran across this very old post where Mark answers the “which sensor to trust” question. Look at post #7. https://www.thedieselstop.com/thread...cation.297592/

I don’t think that’s accurate but ran out of awake hours before finding the answer. The cooler return goes into the back of the transmission for lube then should just end up in the pan.
The glowshift sensor location is in a “test port” which is typically for a line pressure testing purpose. I wasn’t able to find the flow path but I doubt it is post cooler.

well he says go by the one read by the pcm because it is in the valve body. I need to order my 6.0 trans cooler because towing 11k the other day one the interstate I saw 180 to low 190 and in town sometimes it will go 210. Ik they make 2 different 6.0 trans coolers that have a different amount of rows, does one cool better than the other, and if so what years has the more rows?

Which do you prefer?

The one that cools better?

Or the one with more rows?

No, that is not post cooler fluid. That is a line pressure tap and it is pre cooler.

Using the forscan (I won't even touch what you called it) you can go as high as 220°F all day long with no problems. You can go as high as 250°F for no more than a half hour at a time.

I think you're wasting your money adding cooling to this. Those temps are just fine.

They cool about the same. The one with less rows has design changes that make it more efficient so it does the same job as the larger cooler. At least the factory ones were like that, I don't know if the aftermarket coolers are like that, too.

earlier towing approximately 11.5 K I saw 222 per for scan. I know you were saying this isn’t a problem. I just really want to make sure my transmission last as long as it can to me pay the little bit of money for a cooler is not an issue if it is going to help longevity of the transmission. The scan fore scan deal I just caught…. Got to love talk to text 😂
