Having difficulty determining the actual carburetor rebuild kit that I need for this van. I'm hoping that'll help take care of the problem it's at for 30 years in a barn it's only got 33,000 miles but it has some issues with running and I'm still trying to figure out vacuum line. I saw somewhere that it's better to rebuild the carburetor that came with the van versus getting one that is aftermarket. Is that true? Is there an aftermarket one that is reasonably priced that I could just purchase and swap. Or is it really better to rebuild the original manufacturer equipped one barrel?
IMHO, the reman carbs are mostly junk...... the rebuild kits, unless they are oem are junk, missing parts or are of poor quality. IMHO and what I have done for the past decades is I pull the carb off, locate a carb rebuilding shop and have them put a kit together for me. They have much better quality parts than the kits and you get everything you need... the correct part...the 1st time. I do this with my Holley carbs as well.
You need to list that you have a 4.9 in that E150 which some call a E 100
That will mean you have a 1 barrel Carter YFA or YF1A carburetor
Those all take the same carb kit and you use the gaskets that match yours
I recently got a carb kit for one at AutoZone

The VIN shows it's a 4.9 six.
BTW to the OP: If you're just trying to get it running and then evaluate what you have, then spending $25 for a kit and some time rebuilding the carb, then that's the way to go. If you will be going all-in and plan to keep it, then you'd probably want to spend a couple hundred $'s on a properly rebuilt carb like Beechkid mentions. JMHO
I rebuilt a couple carbs many years ago on my eb's and also some motorcycle carbs so I think I'll just disassemble and order parts piecemeal and give it a try I think the majority of my problem is vacuum lines but it sat for so many years that I'm sure the carburetor needs to be built also I ordered a new distributor, rotor, and cap and plug wires. Pretty sure my exhaust manifolds cracked and it seems a pre 79? EFI manifold may be the way to go. It starts everytime but often rough. I plan on keeping this forever turning it into a high top I also have many electrical Gremlins to figure out as it was converted for a handicapped veteran many years ago and there are switches and ***** all over the place that I have no clue what they do. I will get ignition parts installed 1st. I'm sure I'll have more questions.

FYI- I actually rebuild it myself with the components provided by the carb shop..... the kit they put together costs just about the same as if you bought a "kit" online etc.
