Question Brake Line Kit Blues

I ordered a brakeline kit back in march for my rebuild project. I opened the kit today and found that it was or couldn't be the correct kit to many pieces were wrong, I purchased the kit for one of our sponsers, the kit was supposed to fit my 1976 F250 4wd highboy, has any of you had a similar problem?? any input would be welcome. -RW

Was this a general kit you have to bend the lines and flare the ends for? Or was this a repo of original equipment? What was so wrong with it?

I wouldnt bother getting a "pre-bent" kit. Just get the regular tubing, a tubing bender and a flaring tool. Then get what ever fittings you need. Its probably easier to get the tools than find just the right "kit".

I got a kit from inline tube for my 78 F-150 and everything went in super easy. I would avoid the flaring tool (it's not as easy as it looks,) it's way too easy to screw up, and brakes aren't something where you want a mistake.

My second choice would be getting pre-terminated lines at the FLAPS, and putting the bends in yourself. They make different lengths so by using different combinations you can get very close to what you need. Lastly, they make short end pieces that adapt to various different size fittings, metric and standard. So in general a line would go something like this: End adapter - connector fitting - long line - connector fitting - different length long line - connector fitting - end adapter.

I ordered mine through JBG which is made by Inline tube for my 77 F250 Highboy and had the same problem. It was supposed to work and was labeled for my application and hardly anything would work. I tried to make some pieces work and made like two pieces work. I was very disappointed. I don't know what the heck they pre-bent for. I ended up using an old piece that I had and then made my own. I should have put everything back and returned them, but as stated in agreement, anything pre-bent custom ordered was non-returnable/non-refundable and I thought I could at least get some pieces to work. I also failed to realize that a standard flaring tool would not work with stainless steel lines after I had cut one and tried to flare it. Oh well, lessoned learned I guess.

Like kicksGM says it's so much easier to make your own. I do it all the time (says he who lives in a road salt state).

Caution:If you make your own,
Brake lines or any Hydraulic line should always be double flared never single, just like the factory.
