Frame piece question

I have an old 2 post lift in my barn that I have used for years to do oil changes and miscellaneous repairs.
Well my new 2022 f250 is difficult to get on the lift. It has a strange piece of metal bolted to the left frame rail. Just in front of the left rear tire. I will try to attach pic of the piece that I am talking about. It would be much easier to get on my lift if I could remove the piece or bracket. Would it be possible to remove that piece / bracket? What is that bracket used for? Any thoughts or opinions would be appreciated.

I've seen threads discussing, or speculating what it is. Some say it provides some protection for the fuel tank.

Structurally speaking I see no harm in removing it.

That's exactly what it is. It is there to protect the end of the fuel tank from side impact.

I wondered why it looks like it has 2 bolts missing. The 2 bolt holes look like they have been used before.

Was the truck used to carry a truck camper before you bought it?

Most do look like something has been in them. I have no explanation as to why but that is typical, mine included.

I always assumed that it was a tie down location for the assembly line or the rail transporter.

My take, as well. If you've ever seen a rail car with stacks of frames (irrespective of vehicle) they're secured with chains or very thick straps. Something has to facilitate securing them, so it's possible that the two holes that appear to have been used in that frame piece could have been because that particular frame was either on the top or bottom of the transported stack (and had u-bolts attached, but subsequently removed after delivery or when further assembled at a factory).

I have seen some that look like something was bolted to them while others are clean. Transporters may be using them as an alternative tie down point. From what I can see on the building of a 2024, that part no longer has extra holes drilled in it. Maybe someone with a 2024 could verify. Here is a pic of a 2024 and I don’t see any holes in it. One of you folks that live near the plant should stop by and solve the mystery.

As a reference, here is mine and it has no marks on it

I am not sure what the piece is for, but am wondering why it makes it difficult to get on your lift???
The frame is angled behind the piece, so it would not be a good point to set your lift pads there.
Shops lift these trucks with two-post lifts all the time with that piece in place with no issue.

When you look it up it is called a bracket not a fuel tank shield.

That's typical with many parts. They are just listed by a generic term, "Bracket".
