Posted this question in the 73-78 forums since seemed more appropriate there. Will ask here as well since so many knowledgeable people here and maybe even encountered same issue. Looking for some help with cross referencing or finding a suitable replacement for the brake booster in my truck. So, replaced the front suspension and braking system in my '65 with that of a '78. Power brakes, dual piston caliper setup from a 3/4 ton. Now need to replace the booster. Finding that not so simple as nowhere to be found. Can anyone tell me what a comparable replacement would be? Keeping in mind a drastic change in size may require rebending brake and trailer lines so would like to keep same if poss. Thinking possibly what I have was not original to the parts truck I pulled from. Seeing similar booster in a 1 ton, but no way to verify. Best I can tell what I have now is equal to following:
May have answered my own question. It seems that the booster I have is actually from a 1 ton of the same year (78). Looking back over things can see that I modified it to fit as well. Good news is looks like that one can be found easily.
I used a booster that originally came on drum brake trucks on both my 63 and 72 disc brake trucks. Works awesome and is a direct bolt-in.

Why not use what is supposed to go with the '78? It's a matched set. I have the same as you and went 1 step further and got the booster and m/c as an assy. from a chain store Since upgrading all the running gear(frt dual piston from a '76 and rear Dana 61 from an '81) I've found that if I get brake parts for a '76 F250(frt or rear) they all fit/work. Incredible brakes now.
Spent some more time on Cardone website comparing boosters thru the years to pinpoint what I have and see what is still readily available. Came up with part# 54-73112. Used early '70s thru '76. Looks identical to the one in the truck now. Ordered and should have today.
@instig8r, that looks like it'd fit real well except would need to locate opposing end of adjustable rod.
@prostock, as far as using what is supposed to go with the '78, the difference in size would mean I'd have to rebend hard line to my trailer brake controller. Would also interfere with the valve cover since 3" bigger in diameter. Valve cover already a bit awkward to remove. Would be a real pain with the larger size booster. As usual, my attempts to keep things simple became anything but.
