Wondering what everyone is using for tailgate security?
The old hose clamp on the passenger side pivot point trick.
I just installed a pretty slick part from a small company called "Sabellco"
I ordered his product for my 23 tacoma and decided to order his offering for the ford remote tailgate release tailgate at the same time.
Had ordered both about a year ago and just got around to installing the part on my 2019 ford.
The instructions were somewhat brief. I sent the owner of the company a text tonight (Sunday). He responded promptly and said to give him a call. Asked for a few pics, got me on track and said to call back if i had any issues. I have NO skin in the game.
Just thought some of you living in high risk areas might want to take a look at a simple solution. Not foolproof but the average thief would likely move on.
I installed the "LatchLid" tail light/tailgate theft protection brackets on my F-250. Certainly not fool proof but a deterrent. https://latchlid.com/latchlid
I looked into those last week. They were sold out.
I ended up ordering some very overpriced security screws for the tail lights from amazon.
I had ordered the tailgate clamp a year ago.
Probably can't have too many deterrents for tailgate and tail light protection.
Easy to make you own. No screws and no drilling. Just take careful measurements of the latch location before removing it to be sure you get it back in the same location.
Now that most if not all trucks locking tailgates ,I don’t worry about it at all. Didn’t worry about it before I had a truck that locked with the doors.

I saw a truck in an apartment parking lot on my way home from work that sat for about 5 days missing both tail lights. I ordered the latch-lids back when they first came out and installed them, but I also have an Undercover bed cover that locks and sits over the sides of the bed and tailgate to keep it from flopping open when it unlatches on its own. It has done this many times over the last three and a half years but I've never lost anything out of the bed and still have my tail lights. Good luck to all of you on keeping this stuff for your own. If they want it bad enough, they'll get it. We're just trying to slow them down or make them go elsewhere.
I have owned pickups since the early 8Os and never had or known anyone to have a tailgate stolen .
I think the type of theft being thwarted here is not the tailgate itself, but the LED tailights that cost more than the average mortgage payment - each.
