Tailgate theft

My tailgate was stolen from a hotel parking lot in Houston this weekend. This is something I never considered. Since, I’ve read that this is an easy and more common target for the lowlifes.

Of the products available, what do you use on your tailgate to deter its theft? TIA

Inverted hose clamps slow the theft down.

I would suggest the hose clamp trick AND lock it!! That will slow them down! Sorry to hear that this happened to you.

BTW, what color was your gate?

We have a guy here locally to me in Florida that always seems to have 6-8 premimum gated for sale and I have wondered where he gets them.....

Thanks. My gate was black. Yeah, I’ve been looking on Craigslist, eBay, and FB Marketplace. Lots of gates for sale. I was hoping I would come across mine so I could buy it back from the nice folks that stole it.

Right!

I ordered a Gatekeeper from https://jimmijammer.com/Product,%20GK.htm. Same concept as the hose clamp, but more robust.

I went outside to get something from the bed. Both straps were disconnected. I thought WTF? Luckily about 3 months before I put a hose clamp ($2) on the pivot point with the screw facing down when opened. I don't think the bad guys are gonna crawl under the truck AND have the proper screwdriver. I was lucky as two guys on our street had their gates stolen, as well as 6 gates at the closest Ford Dealer.

Smart! Yeah, I agree. Plenty out there, like mine was, that aren’t protected.

This is easy to make. No holes to drill and only takes one side but could do both.
