Educate me

Can someone educate me on the 5.4l triton 2v? Recently replaced the one in my 99 superduty. I noticed the hard way that some have a single coolant temp sensor and some have two. I know the one with two had one for the ecu and one for the gauge (my old engine). The new one only has one. Needless to say the temp gauge doesn't work now but the ecu reads the accurate temp. How can I resolve this short of changing out the jacket on the front of the intake to the one with the second sensor, which requires removing the intake again?

I'd imagine the stock sender is 1/8 or 1/4 NPT thread. You could drill and tap a hole on the top of the thermostat housing (when off the truck to not introduce any metal chips). Then tap the original wire.

An easy fix without any modification would be to get an Ultragage or Scangage to plug into the OBD2 port and mount it in the truck. I have an Ultragage in all my cars to monitor the actual coolant temp.

Stock sender is M17x1.5. I do think I'll tap it though. The boss is there already and easy to access.
