Hey everyone, My 01 2Wd 5.4 X lost all its Forward gears on Valentines Day. It started with the starter which I had to replace that morning. After that I drive it the mile and a half back home, parked it and later moved it a couple feet and later moved it to install a new horn. I disconnected the original wiring for the horn to connect the new on to. I had to go to the parts store less than a mile up the street. I left the horn disconnected. I only made it about 20ft before it wouldn't go any further. It will reverse from coast-to-coast hut only creep a few inches in 1st. I have to run an advanced code runner to see if there's any codes, but does anyone have an idea?
There are two possibilities. The best case is that the feed bolts have loosened. To check them you need to drop the pan and the main valve body. There are three bolts in between the case and the valve body. If they are loose you've found your problem. If they are tight, remove the trans and rebuild or replace it.
Could it be the shift pack, I know its likely that I have to do a rebuild, but I'm just trying to make sure I can say I did everything I could before I start that journey again.
