I’ve bought a use f-150, year 1998. The owner has damaged the window washer button, the one on top of left lever. If I open the dashboard can I connect an external button? What are the wire colors to connect?
True story
Replacing the multi function switch will be the best option
It could be done but not worth the hundred bucks for a new switch
Find a NOS Ford switch on Ebay
The aftermarket ones have a **** poor failure rate
If it 's part of the multi-function switch (MFS), in that year, why not just get a replacement MFS?
Because getting spare parts for that specific model here in Italy is quite difficult, at that time Ford Italy did not import that kind of trucks from USA and so it's difficult to find spare parts from the official channel.
You need to use specialized vendors (with astronomical costs) or import them from USA via Rockauto or similar, in that case the shipping and custom costs will kill you unless you consolidate more items at the same time.
Maybe I'll consolidate some parts to make an order in the future, but until then if I could solve the issue with a single button connected to the back of the dashboard it would be fine.
Meanwhile I've got a wiring diagram, need to check but seems it can be done quite easily.
Well, it is like me finding MG or Porsche parts over here
Ebay is your friend, pay the additional, shipping and customs fees
In your case (Italy) maybe just order the cheap one
Ebay item number 370709717718 is a cheap one
I buy parts from Europe all the time
Look up that switch on Ebay then contact the seller about shipping it to Italy
Or you can find the part number of that switch and search for an international seller to accommodate you
I sell obscure Ford parts I own on Ebay
Last part I sent to Auatralia cost me 43 bucks to send a small bag of power steering seals
That turn signal switch would noy cost much more
Your easiest way to do what you are asking is just to wire a switch into the power wires right at the washer pump motor in the reservoir
Run your own additional wires into the cab for the switch using a hole saw and a gromett
Pick up a power feed from your fuse panel.
Correct, you can have a washer pump in an hour
I would not attack the wires in the column

Thank you, this is the answer I was looking for. I’ll do in this way, meanwhile I’ll get the spare part and change it when I’ll open the steering dash to replace a lot of the dashboard lights that does not work.
