Power steering pump

quick question on this job since I've never done it but do you remove the pulley while the pump is still on the truck or is it necessary to remove the whole entire bracket the pump is bolted to and do it outside of the vehicle. I saw a Youtube video where the guy took the whole bracket off, but that would also require taking off the alternator and removing the upper rad hose to get that whole shootin' match out of there, which I'd rather not if it isn't necessary. Obviously the pump doesn't come out until the pulley is out of the way. Just looking for some tips on this one to make it a little easier. Damn thing started leaking pretty good last week around the pulley shaft area so I ordered a new one and a pulley removal kit.

I removed the alternator when I did mine not long ago. Just easier for an old man NOT to bend down into that engine. You can remove pulley, then unbolt the pump, lines, etc.... and pull the pump out.

You remove and install the pulley with it bolted in place. They make a little tool to press/pull them on and off.

So...you leave the pump bolted to the bracket (3 bolts), leave the bracket bolted to the engine (4 bolts), and the first step is take remove the pulley? Sorry for being dense on this one lol. There was the guy on the video that removed the whole bracket from the engine that the pump bolts to and pulled the pulley off on the workbench. I'd rather not have to mess with that.

TBH I am not entirely sure where it's leaking from at this point after poking around real close with a flashlight. It's either the front seal where the pulley shaft is or where that high pressure line from the hydroboost connects to the side (the fitting that always tries to rub a hole in the CAC pipe.) The reservoir ran a little low and I woke up to a pretty big mess last week. I topped it back off and now it seems to be not leaking quite so badly after watching it closely the past week or so. It is a remanufactured pump and it's been on there awhile. Steering gear is a blue top just went in last summer.
