Does Anyone have a problem where you are driving on the highway with cruise control for a while then you kick it down to pass and it slams really hard down to 5th from 10th? 2020 F150

You will get a hard shift when cruising in 10th and then going to WOT, if that's the only time it does it don't worry about it. Remember the computer is bringing the motor to full power so it's adjusting the transmission for the load so it won't have any slippage. Every truck I've had would have a hard shift when doing what you did, next time before you pass give it enough gas to get a downshift out of ID before you go to WOT everything will last a lot longer.
Or Chevy/GMC. They share essentially the same 10 speed with Ford.
This is true. But the fact of the mater is that GM's software for the ten speed is far better than Fords' While some issues in GM's 10 speed have been reported, it's not anywhere close to the number of complaints about Fords version.
The biggest problem with both companies is that they are trying to compensate for a mechanical design problem with software. It's time to admit the current 10 speed design is a failure, and either fix it properly or replace it with a proven and reliable unit. If you look at list of manufactures who license a version of, or use the ZF 8 speed, it becomes apparent that it is the best transmission on the market right now.
I, and many others have been affected by this defective design. I will not buy another vehicle that has it, Ford or GM. And looking at Ford's recall numbers lately, combined with dismal QC just ads to my resolve. I'm sure glad I don't need a new truck right now.
Well, I'm sure some have a poor experience with the 10 speed hence a harsh attitude toward same.
I have a 2018 5L at 0ver 88k and have no such operational actions.
I don't do reticulas kinds of down shifting like that. if needed under high power, think ahead and shut down OD and go at it.
It is bit much to expect the Trans to down shift from 10 to 5 on WOT with the engine having to RPM >up< to road speed in that gear and making a lot of power.
There are some logic decisions the whole system has to make in a finite time interval to decide what the driver is trying to do.
Don't think for a minute the ZF is fault free in every possible combination of actions. It's not.
Like down shifting at 70 mph to first gear! so you think you got it bad!.
Good luck.

The ZF transmission isnt perfect but it doesnt have one tenth of the issues of the ten speed!
I had the KAM cleared and the adaptive shift points just reset a couple of days ago. Yea-it's better but still not as smooth as it should be. These transmissions are garbage. Those hoping for Ford to recall them are going to be waiting along time. It would be far too expensive.
Yea-I own one and they are garbage.
Guys that come on here and ask-"have you changed the Fluid"? OR just add a bottle of lube guard don't have a clue what they are talking about. Those suggestions will not fix a design issue(s).
Even after being replaced at the dealer mine still shifts poorly and clunks into gear. I told Momma today that even if we have service done on the transmission after another 50k miles I expect it to need a rebuild or replacement again while we own it. I just hope it happens in the next 100k miles since we have an extended warranty until 150k miles.

People sneer at Rams but as you said, their usage of ZF 8HP variants has been quite successful in both 1/2 ton and 2500/3500s.

The 5.7 Hemi/8 speed combo drives excellently. My only issue with Rams is the coil spring rear suspension, which most people would probably be fine with.
