First i am a loyal Ford fan owning a total of 13 trucks in my lifetime I have owned 4 newer trucks with the 10 speed. Its horrible to think that the day of getting over 100k on a transmission is not a viable option for Ford any longer. Just found out i will need a new tranny on my 18 with 97k miles. I have religously serviced tranny every 50k miles for wll trucks. So this make 4 out of 4 failures for me. Since Ford knows of this issue and the numerous lawsuits pertaining to this tranny why cant they just start prepping everyone to exchange out thier transmissions. Its really hurting the brand. I participate on several other boards and we are starting to see thousands of people pushing for this.
Lots of complaints about it. I got rid of a Navigator because of it. Wont buy a new truck because of it. Now that Ford and GM (they jointly designed and developed the 10 speed) realize the future isn’t electric, they will make fixing or replacing it a priority.
I had a fiasco with the 10R80 in my 20 F150. It was in the shop 5 times for transmission service!
The transmission was reprogrammed, rebuilt, reprogrammed and finally replaced. All under the 60k mile Power train warranty.
If it gives me trouble again I am going to ask the service manager to talk to his rep. I am going to ask them to buy back the truck then Momma and I will go buy a Kia Sorento or something that isn't a POS!

Ford is funneling the majority of their funds into building an EV plant and an EV battery plant. They also have a record number of recalls to deal with that are costing them billions. ICE vehicles and related parts seem to be a low priority these days. Heck, I have had an intake manifold for my 5.0 engine on order since last May. Dealer says there are between 4 and 5 thousand on order across the country and Ford just decided not to satisfy those orders leaving owners of these vehicles high and dry. My guess is they are allocating financial resources from everywhere they can and dumping them into EV's that few people are even interested in buying. I'm sure politics have something to do with this, but the fact remains Ford is between a rock and a hard place, and I'm getting more nervous by the day even owning a Ford product right now. Unfortunately I don't feel like they will have the ability to keep my truck on the road for much longer, and some days I kick myself for not selling it when used car prices were through the roof. Lets all pray for better days ahead!
The service manager at my dealership told me he expects to end up issuing a recall on the 10R80 eventually. Of course, that could have just been smoke he was blowing.
Momma and I sold a 20 Hyundai Palisade because it was having transmission trouble. We swapped over to the 20 F150 at the height of COVID and actually got $10k over what we paid for the Palisade to put down on the truck. I still paid too much for my truck.
The dealer we bought the truck from went out of business because they were unwilling to buy into the EV baloney!
They moved to an improved product. The 6.4 lasted only 3 model years, the 5.4 3V lasted 6 model years. They never recalled those bad engine designs. If you were lucky enough to have one replaced, it would have had to have been under warranty.
We don't have a lot of miles on ours - but the clunking shifting was 90% solved with the reprogramming (it still clunks once in a while). While there certainly are a number of 10 speed failures, there are a huge number that aren't failing. We had this same discussion on the 6.0s about Ford just replacing them all, and they didn't of course - ironically the 6.0 with some updates and good maintenance is proving to be pretty strong. I hope the 10 speed ends up the same (reliable in the end) and that those that need a bad one replaced, get Ford to cover it...
I may be singing a different tune with more miles...
Oh and as to Ford spending all their funds on EVs and Battery plants - that is outdated. Ford has cut way back on the Lightning production and also way back on building out the Battery plants - they, like the whole traditional industry is changing course to build more Hybrid powertrains, as that is what consumers will buy (Toyota was way ahead on this one, again).
I only have 40K on my 2018, but so far I've had ok luck with it. It's certainly not the smoothest shifting transmission I've ever had, but it works pretty well. Hopefully I won't be eating my words when the miles rack up to a certain point. I did get a Ford ESP warranty for this truck, something I usually don't do. I got it for the electronics and other non-user-repairable stuff, but maybe I'll need that service plan for the transmission?
running a trans shop all of the big 3 are keeping us open, IMMO please!! we don't need 9 and 10 speed units in trucks 5 and 6 is enough , personally give me back a work truck with a stick shift .

They would replace them ONCE-when you needed a third they wouldn't.
