Bad transmission?
I’d like to preface that I am not a mechanic, I simply know how to turn a wrench. I have a 2000 f350 7.3 powerstroke with an automatic transmission. I believe I have a bad transmission. The transmission will not go into gear. I’m full up on fluids, no leaks and no codes. I’ve checked linkages and made sure that everything that I can think of is working. If the truck sits over night, I can fire it up and it will maybe go 20 feet before coming out of gear. Anyone experience this or have any ideas before I take the thing to a shop? The truck has 220k miles on it just for reference.
Does any one know of any reputable shops or supplies of transmission in the Pacific Northwest? I’m located in Easter Washing.
thanks got any replies!
My first thought was shift linkage.
How did you confirm?
Have you tried L and 2 as well?
Does it go in Reverse?
There’s a couple bolts under the dash that tend to loosen up and cause some issues. 2 star headed ones I believe. Near the steering column.
Was the fluid checked while on flat ground with engine running?
Most scanners can’t read codes on our trucks. That said, no CEL or flashing OD button light leads me to believe maybe there aren’t any codes. Most people here prefer a Bluetooth dongle like BAFX or OBDLINK paired with FORScan app.

I replaced my transmission last summer, it was an ordeal. The new transmission came with a defective solenoid pack, Browns was good to work with in troubleshooting the issues and standing behind their product. I considered ordering a rebuilt one online because it would've been a lot faster, but glad I didn't go that route.
New transmission's been in for about 15k without issue now.
Best of luck.

Linkage that I’ve checked was simply the shift lever to make sure it was functioning correctly and making nothing was amiss in the steering column.
I have tried every gear with the truck and the results are the same. I did see signs of leakage from my cooler lines and replaced those and made sure to drop the fluid in the transmission and refill with fresh fluid. Old fluid looked fine, no shavings or odd discoloration. I checked my fluid level on the level with the truck running, all was good, might have even been a little over full.
As far as checking codes, I just have an OTC OBD2 scanner and there are no dash warning lights coming up.
Im in Canada and recently had mine replaced. 6k Cdn ( approximately 4.5k USD) installed. Summit performance in Abbotsford.

Not sure if he will ship to the US but you can always give him a call.
I’m more than happy with it others than having to pay the bill.
