Shifting,reverse,NSS ?s

Hello,
77 f100 ranger xlt , 302,c4 longbed

Probably a rehash but trying to pull all info from forum together to resolve .
sometimes slips into reverse a idle, park. I remembered this from the day about fords.
Brake lights out- 4ways work
Back up lights flicker once then out
will not start in neutral

considering a new steering wheel
should I replace/adjust- Lock out plate , turn sig cam. NSS.
anything else??

The NSS will affect starting in neutral and the back up lights. None of the other things you mentioned are related to the transmission operation.

Does the transmission shift lever on the column feel right, like it is soundly connected, or does it feel "disjointed". What you describe almost sounds like affects of a cracked & weakened shift collar. A link from my experience a few years back.
