Have a 2010 f250 automatic transmission, looking to see which filter it has. When I look up filters it gives me a few option. Just want to make sure I order the right one and fluid before downing my truck
If the truck does not have the external filter the internal filter is lifetime according to the Ford Dealership. Which is the case on my 2008 F250 6.4 which has the same transmission.
Are the options just different brand names of filters ( like motorcraft vs. Wix)?
Because there is only one filter for the 2010 model 5r110 transmission. The earlier models ( behind 6.0 engine), some of those had two filters but the 08+ trucks got the better setup with a single filter. It’s actually a popular upgrade for the 6.0 guys to change over to the 08+ trans pan and filter.

I think it was internal and external maybe. I’ll have to take a look again. I just know it was two different styles. The typical in pan one and then an odd looking one.

Neither of the 6.4 trucks I’ve owned have had the smaller frame mounted external transmission filter like the 6.0 trucks had.
I still own a 2010 F250 that was originally a 6.4 ( it’s Cummins swapped now because,well,,,6.4 stuff happened), but it’s still running the original 5r110 transmission and I can promise you that there was no factory external transmission filter ever on that truck, just the one under the trans pan.

My 08 had an external transmission filter mounted under the front of the engine. After 2010, Ford went to a deeper transmission pan and a real internal filter and did away with the external.
I ended up changing to a new transmission pan and 2011+ internal transmission filter. The later filter is a real filter and the new transmission pan had a drain plug, "a bonus".
I did change my external filter, but as I understand it, changing the external filter is no longer required because i have a real internal filter.
I took off the pan, put on a new later model filter. Installed new style pan. Changed the external filter, I then cycled the transmission, drained and repeat this two more times. My hillbilly transmission flush.

Only the very early 08s got the small external trans filter , they were called the “job1” trucks, they also had a shorter plastic front air damn and a few other very minor differences.
The later 08s ( job 2 and job 3) didn’t get the external filter, none of the 09-10 trucks got it.
That little external filter is a left over from the 6.0 years. The 08+ pan and filter is a real common upgrade for the 6.0 guys.
