Code 172 with no running issues.

Hello everyone,

I've got a 94 F150 with the 5.0 that's giving me some headache. The truck is displaying a code 172 during the KOER test, but nothing on the KOEO test. The truck seems to run and drive as usual except for the CEL. It usually takes a mile or so of driving to kick the light on then it will stay on for the duration of the drive. The only issue I can say I've had with the truck running is twice now when I've first started the truck it will high idle for a couple seconds, then randomly stutter and almost shut off, but it will catch itself right before it shuts off and keeps running. I have disconnected the battery to reset the code but it still popped right back on. Anyone have any guidance? Some assistance would be appreciated as this is the first time the truck has given me a CEL.

Thanks

Check for vacuum leaks. Check your fuel pressure. Pull your computer and inspect the board.

Sounds like a ECU problem. Do the suggestions above before condemning it thou. Vacuum leaks, and fuel pressure.

A quick update for everyone.

I checked all the vacuum lines, air intake boots, and pretty much anything intake related under the hood but could not find any issues. I checked fuel pressure and KOEO was about 38-39psi, where KOER was about 30-31. It seemed that everything was checking out as far as air and fuel goes. I had a new spare O2 sensor for the truck so I decided to install that and it fixed it. Something in the sensor must've been causing the engine to run lean causing the code, once the sensor was in the CEL has not come back on since.

Thanks for the suggestions.
