Hello,
New to me 94 5.8 L. Truck wasnt running right, used the code reader and found 172 and 173 during the koeo test. It does not consistantly do this. Prior to this I have done a complete tune up and replaced a failed computer.
Those codes are in MEMORY. They showed after any KOEO codes. Memory means the codes have occurred but are not currently active. Suggest you clear them by running codes again and when codes start to appear turn the reader off and they will clear. I always recheck mine to make sure they cleared. After you drive it again recheck to see if they have come back. Until then nothing to worry about. What about the truck was not running right? Codes usually just get you in the ball park on problems. Your reader was showing a little c at the top when it went into Memory test. They truck should have been at operating temperature when you did the KOEO test and if it wasn't that could have thrown the codes. After you fix all KOEO codes then go to KOER key on engine running and the truck at operating temp and see if any codes are present.
