i have a 92f150 302 4x4 5spd with 123000 mi. i have had cel coming on for a while. finally got around to checking them. i get code 11 for the first code which is pass. memory code 41. i have put a brand new motorcraft o2 sensor in three days ago. cleared codes. still getting cel on. i checked codes again still getting above codes. went farther into the 41 code. it is saying my pcm needs updated. ego not switching, bank one lean. then gives a tsb 93-14-18. then a ford part number for the updated pcm. has anyone had similar problem or know what the tsb bulletin is about. thanks
Just because a code mentions a part, that doesn't mean there's anything wrong with it. The old HEGO might have been accurately reporting a lean condition, which could be caused by lots of things. A vacuum leak is the most common, but a stuck IAC might do the same thing.
I'd say both HEGOs are good and working right - you need to find why the engine can't get enough gas. Change the fuel filter and check the pressure at the rail. FPRs are also known to go out.
i was using a haynes manual list. used a snap on brand code analyzer. koeo just code 11 and 11 then hard memory 41. engine running same codes but then it refers to all the pcm stuff. as far as the iac i do belive i need a new one, cant run ac or defrost at idle without it dying. but no code came up for iac.
what is strange is i changed the original battery back in oct. drove back from sears and check ginge light started coming on and has ever since. never had light come on before that. the truck runs and idles fine. the most notable symptom is the exhaust will absolutly choke you to death. i know they put out a smell but this will knock you down.
thanks
seemed to have finally fixed the problem. i did the following things to no avail.
1. cleaned aic sensor
2. cleaned and checked egr
3. installed new iac-needed anyway
4. new o2 sensor
5. had a mechanic check fuel pressure regulator, he said it was fine.
6. new ignition control module
truck finally died on me. it started idling up and down between 300rpm and 900rpm like a vacuum leak but no leak could be found. then it died and was rollback time. had truck towed to a garage owened by two retired ford mechanics. bad fuel pressure regulator. towing, trouble shooting and fixing 130.00.
truck so far drives like new and no check engine light. hope it is fixed now. was going to replace fpr next but it quit before i could and i threw in the hat. thanks for the reply steve83.
