So, the other day something strange happened...., I got a message displaying :Engine oil change soon"? You might think, what's the big deal? Well, I've had this truck for four years, and have changed the oil probably 14 times or so, and I have never seen this message before! Why all of a sudden would it come on now? How do I reset it since I changed the oil about 2k miles ago? This is a 2011 F150 EcoBoost with 137k miles on it.
Instructions to reset mine is in my owners manual, Information Display section. I use the Reset button to do mine, yours may be different. When all else fails, RTFM!
I'm pretty sure it popped up only b/c it timed out. I've scoured the Forscan notes to change mine from 7K miles to 5K but have yet to find a way to do it so I just use 40% left as a trigger to remind me, then reset it to 100% after changing.
I don't use my "oil life monitor" reminder at all. I always change my oil ever 4-5000 miles. If the reminder comes on, I just hit reset, and keep on trucking.
at 5k intervals, it's easy, just change on multiple of 5.
40,45,50,55,60 etc
90,95,100,105,110, etc
and forget the small stuff.
I used to do it that way. Until I had 2 cars driving 20k miles a year each and I was spending all my free time changing oil with half of them being in the cold and snow.
a better way is to change it at any interval and send in a sample and let the lab tell you if that is an appropriate interval. Then extend it and repeat. By doing that I was able to safely extend from 5k intervals to 10k intervals and reduce my oil changes from more than 8 per year to around 5. And was able to time them so that I didn’t have to do it in the winter anymore.
Another way is to use an oil that exceeds the manufacturers minimum specifications and run your oil life monitor out to zero. In my case I’m using an oil rated for 20k miles and changing it at zero percent which is 10k or less.
The oil life monitors are actually really good at tracking vehicle use. There is really no reason not to use them.

I use https://www.blackstone-labs.com/. Their analyses have been extremely helpful to determine appropriate change intervals in all my vehicles, especially wet clutch motorcycles where oil shearing is a concern.
