So I have a couple of questions about seam sealer, where to apply it, how to apply and welding with it. My first question is about applying the seam sealer in between all the layers of metal that come together at the inner rocker, rocker and the kick plate. Do I put seam sealer in between every piece of metal, because that's what it looked like to me as I took these pieces apart. It looked like the factory put seam sealer in there but nothing else, no primer no paint, nothing. My next question........ Do I put primer on first the seam sealer, then weld it up. Can I even weld through the seam sealer? I guess what I'm really asking for is an order of operations for putting these pieces back together, regarding the correct way to prep the metal for welding and then primer to seal it all up so its good until I can fix the rest of the issues and get it to paint. Can anyone shed some light on this for me? And yes I realize nothing is lined up, everything still needs to be cut and final fitment I just wanted some pics to help everyone see what I'm looking at.
The only thing I will add to it is weld thru primer.
Clean everything like you will weld it then spray on the weld thru primer as it will coat any metal you cant get to once the patches are welded.
There are 2 ways that seam sealer come in.
Tube that you use a caulk gun with and then brush on.
After the spray primer, patches welled I did 2 coats of sealer on the top & bottom seams.
The first coat was with the caulk gun to force it in any openings and between panels if there was a gap.
When that set up I used the brush on over all the seams again before priming and paint.
What looks like white spray paint is weld thru primer.
2 coats of seam sealer
I did not have carpet or rubber floor mat so I did 2 coats of roll on bed liner top & bottom of the floor.
As you can see I have not primed or painted the rocker at this time.

BTW weld thru primer has a lot of zinc that makes it weldable
A few tips on seam sealer application if you plan to use a caulking gun : cut tip of caulking tube nozzle at a 45 degree angle & about 1/2" down from tip. Wear disposable gloves & after you lay down a nice even bead over target seam dip your index finger or thumb in a small container of paint thinner. Run your finger (I like using my thumb for wider seams) over the top of wet seam sealer. You will find that this method produces smooth flat applications that look factory installed. Also, for the faster drying seam sealers be sure not to caulk anything over about 2 ft beads at a time as it sets up quickly. Cheers
