I recently purchased a used 2005 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer Edition. The driver’s door will not lock nor unlock using the key in the cylinder. It appears that this assembly has required maintenance before, as the lock plunger-button (on the inside of the door) is depressed relative to the one on the passenger side; it can still be toggled manually, to lock the door, but not to unlock it, because it sits flush with the trim.
The key fob still works. The keyless entry system does not, nor has it ever.
What sorts of tools will I need, or parts will I need to replace, in order to repair the function of the lock cylinder, restore the plunger-button to it’s original position and function, and reactivate the keyless entry system?
It might be worthwhile to search this forum with keywords like "front door lock" because it appears that others have had issues similar to what you are describing.
Basic hand tools (pliers, screwdrivers, wrenches) will get you started. A good flashlight and magnetic pickup tool might help locate loose parts inside the door.
