Been doing a lot of troubleshooting... still had an unstable idle once the engine warmed up. Behavior seemed pretty erratic so I figured computer damage or maybe the PIP becoming unstable when hot.
Pulled the computer to check the board. Everything looked clean. Confirmed the IAC was doing its thing. Went back to ignition and pulled the distributor to check out the PIP sensor. Disassembly revealed oil residue on the PIP and housing. I cleaned the oil up and replaced the PIP. This resolved the idle trouble.
I have ordered a new shaft seal to hopefully resolve the oil problem. I don't know if the oil is actually contributing to the PIP failure or if it is unrelated.
Well a longer cruise revealed the warm idle issue continues. I will pull codes again to see if the computer is seeing anything out of sorts. Not sure where to go from here. I can use a heat gun on different components to try and get it to stumble in the driveway.
