idle problem

Guys I have been having an idle problem after driving. When I start it in the morning it is ok but after I drive and it warms up and I stop and throw it in park, the motor will sound and feel choppy. Im not sure where to look in to. Icp first maybe? My next thought was a sticking ipr. There is no oil in the icp plug. Any help is appreciated and thanks in advance!

Welcome to FTE. First off, how old is the engine oil and is it full? If in doubt, change the oil. Worn or improper oil can cause issues, especially when it warms up. And stay away from oil additives.

Next time it starts to idle bad, unplug the ICP with the truck still running. If the idle smooths out you need a new ICP sensor. If there's no change, it's not the ICP.

Changed it about a month ago only about 1.5k on it. Drove a few miles today and the idle was rough. Shut it off and unplugged it and drove it home with the icp sensor unplugged and when I got home it idled fine, I will try what you said tomorrow thank you

Did it have oil in the ICP connector or plug?

No oil in either. Just tried what he stated above when I just pulled in. When i touched the sensor it bogged down when I pulled it off it smoothed out. Shut it off and tried again and if i wiggled the sensor it killed the truck? Am I getting a bad connection? Its definitely an icp sensor problem should I order a new one. I am puzzled that moving the sensor bogged it and killed it

Sounds like a wiring/connection issue to me. You can get a new pigtail for the icp sensor if needed.

Try the tests in the first two tables of this link. ECSD - Injection Control Pressure (ICP) Sensor - 1994-1997 Power Stroke FAQ

Ok I will have to get my multimeter and check the connector. Ses light is never on unless I unplug it

Ok I tested the pigtail for voltage and ohms. The voltage tests all passed, on the ohm one The A test passed. The B test was .504k. The C test was 59.3k. My cousin helped he went to school for this but it has been 12 years so he couldnt remember exactly so he couldnt say if B and C passed. What are the values converted for B and C? . I am stumped. I think the pigtail is good but the sensor is bad am I correct?

Looks like B is out of range and would be 504 ohms. 1 k ohm = 1000 ohms.

Probably a new pigtail would fix it. When you cut the wire back you can recheck the resistance on B and if it's still about the same it's further back toward the pcm. I'll see if I can find a part # for the pigtail. I know it's cheap at international but Ford sells a kit and is kind of expensive IIRC.

Edit:

International: ICP Connector
(International) 2501105c1

Ford repair kit (expensive, msrp $75)

The pigtail is only plug and play on the icp sensor side. The harness side you have to splice it in.
