I have a 1994 F150 4x4 that has the E4OD and I’m unsure of the reason for shifting issues. It feels like the truck doesn’t want to shift out of 1st gear and sometimes 2nd. RPM’s will start to climb high and then the truck will shift and when it does shift it is kinda hard. I can sometimes hear a pop when it shifts as well. If you have any insight into this issue please let me know. Thank you.

To read codes on your 94 f150 you can get a scan tool to read it or use a program like FORSCAN, but the cheapest way is with a paper clip. this is to count flashes on yoru dash. You can also use an analog voltmeter to count swipes. You can also buy a tool from the auto part store that digitally reads out the analog signals as a numeric value ( I did this since I wasnt counting right)
This will tell us a lot hopefully. Also, your transmission has a lot of things that could be mechanically at issue. Can you send a picture of the MLPS (The sensor on the shift llinkage on the transmission) and the connector to it? just climb under your truck about wherre your door handle is but down under the center of the truck. You should be able to fit with it being f150 to take a picture.
You also have any issues with the shift lever? does it line up on the dash, to the detents feel good/proper? Do you have working 4x4, if you put the 4x4 in 4lo does the truck say 4x4 LOW on the dash and does it seem to drive properly then?
Whats your transmission fluid look like, smell like, have you replaced it? ever check the level by following the manuals instructions for driving and putting it in each gear position and then checking? Have you ever put fluid in, if so, what kind?
I’m sorry for not responding, I haven’t been active here much. I bought the tool that counts the signals for you. It just recently got delivered and I will be using it as soon as possible. Thank you guys
Late last night I started my truck up and let it idle for a while to warm up. I went to put it into Drive and the truck lurched forward and stalled. I started it back up and tried it in 1st and it drove fine, same for 2nd and reverse. It idles right, and nothing else seems to be off. I was just wondering if anyone had any insight on where to start with diagnosing the issue. Thank you in advance!
