I have a 2002 f150 with a 5.4 but I was given a 5.4 from a 2008 and I was wondering will the wiring harness and everything match up with my new motor or what would I have to change ?
The basic "rule" is to take the newer engine down to the long block and install all the intake, electrical etc from the recipient vehicle. That way your wiring harness is still married up to the truck and you'll have less fiddling with that part of the swap.
Where the wheels come off is if the engines are different types--a 3V vs. a 2V for example
Or if the intake etc simply won't bolt up.
Stand by, others have travelled this path and may have some better answers for you.
Not 100% on this, but as mentioned the 3V versus 2V is the main problem. Looks like the 2008 is probably 3 and yours is 2. The 3V has VCT, so a completely different PCM and wiring.
"When my buddy opened the hoods of these new '04 F-150 pilot units, it was obvious Ford had a very different Modular planned for the new F-150 and Expedition. It was unlike any Modular SOHC 2V we had ever seen. Power was up for 2004, with a new three-valve 4.6L and 5.4L SOHC Modular engine with variable cam timing (VCT) and improved induction. This new Modular had two intake valves and one large exhaust valve, along with variable-valve timing to help kick power up a notch."
Impossible unless you swap processors and the wiring harness due to the 3V and the cam phasers
Could be done but might take 10 years
It would be like putting that 08 engine in a 1950 truck
You need everything with it
Which means gut the 03 truck and start over using the 08 parts
