Hello everyone,i noticed on my 97 f150 4x4 auto that after it sat for awhile, and i get in,put it in reverse. The first time i hit the brakes it feeld like the ABS kicking in on the rear.I dont have to brake hard, just normal braking,is this normal. This is on dry pavement, first brake only then it goes away.Is the ABS resetting or something? Alittle help on this one,Thanks for your time.
TO RACERGUY,it happens after ive been i reverse, then go into drive. The first brake after that.It feels like the brakes are locking up in rear. Thanks for your help
If you back in and then the first brake application of the day is in drive does it do the same thing?
Have you had the drums off to check for problems such as park cables hanging up, wheel seals leaking, hold downs broken etc?
Whoa cowboy. Just happened to check TSBs for my '97. My back right brake has grabbed hard on the first application of the day when the night was rainy or very humid. I've check for gear lube, sanded the shoes, cleaned the drum, replaced the shoes, and 8 years later it still does it. With all the rain lately, even the left rear joined in and killed the engine the other night.
Turns out there's a TSB. Fix is a newer style brake shoe. See your Ford parts department and mention this to them. My aftermarket shoes 4 years ago did the same as the original.
2012 F350 dually. Rear brakes keep locking up. Replaced all brakes in rear 2 months ago, 2 weeks later locked up again. Dealer replaced brake modulator valve. Now a month later locked up again. Any ideas? This truck only has 114k original miles!
Lock up while driving? Or while sitting in the driveway? Stay locked up or release and roll?
Codes? Brake light? ABS light?
"Locking up" and "locked up" is not much to go on. Good luck.
They lock up while driving. Gradually at first & the longer you drive they get tighter & tighter. Barely rolling by the time I got it to dealer. Haven’t checked codes yet & yes abs & traction control lights are on. Thanks for suggestions. Not sure how much faith I have in this dealer! Lol
