Help me decode VIN.
Inherited this vehicle, and I am having a hard time finding answers on how to decode this VIN. I find a lot of information for the F600, but not the F601. Any help on understanding the year, model, information, and engine, would be great. Thanks in advance.
F60 = F600 gas, 4x2
C = 330 2V MD FT gas V8 (Medium Duty = cast 352 crank, FE size 1/4" oil pump drive, other FE bits)
K = Kansas City Assembly Plant
769063 = 1966 numerical series, October 1965 production
174 = 174 inch wheelbase
L = Dark Green (there is some evidence of a repaint on your warranty plate--red paint on the top edge--any other evidence this thing used to be green?)
F601 = F600 gas, 4x2, 15,000 lbs GVWR (I count 10 model numbers for '66--different GVWR, 4x4, air brakes, and other differences)
481
4 = Biege Vinyl
81 = Conventional cab. I do not have more info for this model year
A = New Process model 435 four speed transmission
G2C
G2 = Eaton model 16802 two speed rear axle, 17,000 lbs capacity, 5.57 / 7.75 ratios
C = Ford-Rockwell (Timken) front axle, 6,000 lbs capacity
15000 = 15,000 lbs GVWR
164 3800 = 164 certified net HP @ 3800 RPM
21 = Atlanta District Sales Office

You have a low GVWR despite the high axle ratings. The dealer ordered this or got it as an allotment--I do not know how that system worked. So Ford gave them the lower GVWR probably with smaller tires, lighter springs, whatever, and no doubt a lower price.
What kind of wheels are on it? As OEM if it had Budd type wheels they were widow makers.

Those usually aren't much trouble until they are...then they are a blast.
Post up some pics. How does it run?
It was raining today, and I did not have a key. I will be finding out more about it soon. Has very low miles. Only used on the farm.

A model of a model.
Forget F601 unless someone asks specifically. For parts you need the specific engine, trans, axle and gvwr, and axle capacities listed above.
Once you pull your brakes apart, the width and diameter of the brakes is another set of numbers to jot down.
You have Dayton or Dayton style wheels with split locking rings. Those are safe and serviceable, although you'll have to find a shop that will work on them.
You can find 22.5" tubeless rims for those if you want to go that way, depending on the condition of what you have and what you want to do.
