Has anyone found any information on whether these transmissions have had any updates to the internal problem ares? If so, do the new individual transmissions have those updates?
In my Navigator, the dealer sent it out for rebuild, as there were no new units available at the time. I suspect that's what most dealers are doing anyway, as it's about half the price of a new one. The problems is that the third party rebuilder will only repair the visibly damaged parts, with the same replacement parts.
It really comes down to an overall poor design. In my opinion the 10 speed was designed for economy first, at the expense of durability.
Also, I have never minded a firm shifting transmission, it doesn't bother me to fell it working. I prefer that to a "buttery" transmission that is designed with a lot of slip. But no one likes an erratic, unpredictable transmission or one that constantly hunts around for gears. And what's the point of 10 speeds if three of the speeds are overdrives?

This is exactly what most 10 speed transmissions are in the F150.

When my 10R80 was rebuilt the service manager said an updated CDF was installed. Of course, after the transmission was finally replaced I wonder if the new transmission has that updated part?
Same here, in a Wagoneer and Wrangler that we have. I thought the Torqshift was my favorite until now that we have two of these ZF based 8 speeds.
I can't figure out why Ford quit their licensing agreement with ZF and allowed Chrysler to have it. Going in with GM on the 10R80/10L80 has been nothing but a blunder.

And on the HD side of the Ram house, they brought the Aisin transmission down to the SRWs - I think anything with the HO Cummins in it gets the Aisin (friend got one last year)...

It’s about time. Their transmission issues with the in house Chrysler unit behind the Cummins were bad. A coworker had his truck bought back in 2016. Took months to find a SRW with an Aisin option to replace it. That along with the awful 9 speed FWD transmission are probably one of the reasons they went outside to source transmissions.
When mine was rebuilt they had the newest drum assy. Part number installed, from what I understand it has to do with that bearing now has a retainer to hold it in place
Its been about 3000 on it and all is good
I think 8 speeds are the limit and Ram has an excellent one.
I agree. If Ford just sucks it up and buys the ZF 8HP75 or licenses it and builds it exactly as ZF builds it, it would be a phenomenal transmission to go with the 5.0
