hey guys, sorry to be a stranger, been a busy spring. wife's lease was up in February, so we had her parents' second vehicle as a loaner while they were still in Florida, to buy us some time to look for something used to buy outright. put it off as long as we could in hopes of the market becoming sane again, but finally had to bite the bullet. found her a 2016 explorer. decent shape, a few dings i've mostly worked out with a DIY paintless dent removal kit. 4wd, and has the basic 3.5 n/a that seems to have a decent track record (but won't win any races, that's for sure). will need tires before the snow flies, and the CEL came on 24 hours into owning it, so it's getting a cat converter next week. but hoping it'll get us by for a couple years.
it's the hot glue style, with a bridge puller. just grabbed it on amazon. certainly not professional grade, but for $35 i'm happy with the improvements it made (smooth-sided gloss black car, so little improvements go a long way!)
John, you can get slotted rotors and pads on amazon for about $300 for all 4. I just did the lincoln last summer.
Torr, that thing is cool!!
I had the breaks done 👍 stops nice now, I knew it was time for breaks, was just dragging my feet..
Up next is the front end noise, my mechanic says the upper arms are worn, so maybe those. Busy shop had to make appointment, but sounds like it's worth the wait , being my noise was finally heard by someone other than myself ! After this I'll get tires in the fall for winter, , after last winter I know it's definitely time for those too, haha. And perfect timing because my valve stem has begun leaking air.
Picked this up Saturday near Cleveland. Made it back near Adrian, but the brakes were overheating. Limped it to a shop in Monclova Ohio. Hopefully it's not ridiculously expensive to fix.
that's so cool. I always wanted to find one of those and put a dually pick up bed on it, lol. I used to drive a flat bed truck with that cab for a company when i was a kid.
Congrats man. It's Andrew, Chad and I were talking about where everyone went to. So many from even just a few years ago don't get on here anymore. Glad we can count on you to pop in every now and then.
