Step one: Make sure the solenoid is grounded. If the base of the solenoid is not grounded (making a good connection with body metal) it is not going to work.

You know I been dealing with and working on my Fords for more years than I dare say and I never knew that until I read it somewhat recently on this site. I will have to play around someday and convince myself whether or not it's true. Don't take offense for me possibly doubting you.

Think about it you have power into it from the battery, You have a trigger wire hooked to the S lug.
So to complete the path you have to have a ground.
Pull the 2 screws that hold it in place and hit the key and wait for ................................. nothing!

I hear what you are saying. I am not fully convinced that it can't ground another way. I will pull the 2 screws and see if the starter will engage. It may be a couple weeks as it isn't even getting above zero for highs here. When I find out I will post back to this thread and admit defeat.

The only other way to get to ground would be with a wire to ground. Do you think that Ford would spend money to install a wire to ground when the starter relay is already grounded?
