Valves

I have my 77' 400 engine out, bored
030 ,honed, decked and it's time to go back with New valves.
I have mild Comp Cam, all new pushrods lifters Rocker Arms from Melling but need recommendations for stainless steel intake and exhaust valves. US engine seems good but what would ya'll say?!

haven't heard of any that are that bad. your guides and seats are what's more important.

My daughter is an auto machinists, mainly diesel...but isn't versed in part quality yet. Neither am I
I'm in Industrial Heat Transfer..
the heads are decked to meet new flattops and she has guides waiting on her. Just wondered if the quality of SS or production is better at a specific Factory.
thanks for your help man

The stock 400 valves had a multi grove retainer. It’s recommended to change to a standard single groove type valve and retainers. Stock material valves should work just fine for your build but performance valves can’t hurt.

Manley has always been the gold standard. I just never cared that much to be honest any good brand works fine.

If you're doing much surface machining be sure to check your lifter preload and geometry good. and I hope if you have a flat tappet cam you bought your lifters a while back. there seems to be a lot of break in failures lately I think since Johnson went out of business it's a crap show. some engine shops are refusing to warranty flat tappet failures now.

The main difference is stainless valves are a one piece and stock are two piece.
