E40d slipping gears?

I got a 1997 f350 dually 7.3 powerstroke with a new reman e40d with a bank trans controller just the details about the truck. When am driving usually only happens in 4th or overdrive and when rpms are above 1500 but can also happen randomly mostly in that range tho. The truck feels like it falls into neutral like I can Rev my rpm up and it won't acceleration. Sometimes if I keep on reving it it "catches" back into 4th but most times I have to come to a complete stop then go and it starts back in 1st
replaced mlps and checked wires no visible problems there
3rd brake light works
fluid is good too
Another thing is my gear selector can be wiggled from the very left side of the D indicator to the very right side of it. It seems from my limited experiment that if I wiggle it onto the middle of the D it dosent seem "slip" if that makes sense that could also be part luck I guess.
can't scan codes odb2 port dosent work.
Any tips or suggestions will be much appreciated thank you.

Replace the Manual Lever Position Sensor (MLPS.) It is located on the driver's side of the trans. It is the part with the wiring harness attached. As it wears it can send a false signal to the PCM that you have moved the shift lever to N.. The PCM then sends the trans to N, and you get what you have been seeing.

I have replaced that. How close do the lines to align it have to be, they may be slightly off but barely any. But at the same time I can start it in any gear maybe a bad switch? I use a push button if that matters any. Got it from autozone duralast I belive it was

Alignment probably can't cause this.

As for starting in any gear, that means that whoever installed the push button start bypassed the MLPS, making this very dangerous.

Another possibility is the PSOM is starting to fail. That's the module on the backside of the instrument cluster. It sends vehicle speed data to the PCM, which decides what gear the trans should be in. Does your speedometer bounce, or otherwise do things it shouldn't do?

It dose bounce a little bit but not very often. Is that somthing i can find at the junk yard or do I need to send it off somewhere to get rebuild? I've read somewhere that the throttle body sensor can cause problems could it have something to do since it most commonly happens at cursing speed?

A junk yard PSOM is probably no better than what you have. There are places that rebuild them. I don't know any of them.

The TPS is another possibility. I've seen them wear out and cause issues.

do you know of a way to test to see if my psom is going bad? Or is that a scan tool job?

One way that many people find out that there PSOM is bad is by removing it and opening it up. They find leaking capacitors and/or a cracked circuit board.

Get rid of that junk Banks transmission killer, and get a Hydra with real tunes if you want better shifting.

I can manually put it in 2nd and 1st by the gear selector. Just moves the truck but no shift. Is this limp mode probably right? Cause by whatever is happening?

That is not limp mode. That is a failure. It could be low fluid, a loose or missing internal filter, or a worn out transmission.

Are there any codes stored in the PCM?
