recently rebuilt rear drums and I adjusted the pads a bit too tight on the DS rear.
tried loosening the star wheel, but think I accidentally disengaged the spring mechanism.
Took apart the opposide side to verify direction of wheel adjustment.
I think I have the wheel turned all the way to shorten the adjuster, and can feel that adjuster wobbling so I know the pads should be fully off tension.
still can't remove the drum easily. tried lightly tapping all around the back side w/ a 1/2" socket extension and a sledge, trying to walk the drum off.
is my next bet getting a puller? I don't see any holes in the face of the drum that would allow me to drive a bolt to push it off the hub.
ok. released bleeder w/o improvement.
will rent a puller next I guess.
If the bleeder is open with a hose attached and fed into a container, the shoes should release by rocking the drum. The emergency brake hardware is not stuck, correct?
Drum should just slide off, like the other side. Still have too much friction from the shoes for some reason. Cracked the bleeder already and have the adjuster of the bottom with the star wheel fully retracted. New drums and shoes, so no rust to consider. Anti seize placed on face of hub during assembly. E brake off.
going to rent a puller next
I had an issue once, truck was on a lift at a buddy's shop, drum would not come off. Buddy told me to hit it with a hammer, I did, made a lot of noise, but it stayed tight.
I could see that the hub hole where it's beveled out was a tight fit on the hub. Just a little surface rust and it was trying to dig in to the hub.
He came over, took the hammer, hit it twice, hard, drum was free. I had never had one do that before. I got the other side off the same way he did. Something about vibrations.
If pulled, the designed formed bevel at the hub will try to tighten it's grip on the hub.
