Finally received my CTS3 monitor and ran some diagnostics…
I got the P0713 code. This makes a bit of sense, I have delayed shifting into 3rd and it usually goes quickly from 3rd to 4th when it does shift. My temps are well within normal range, as I have two tranny coolers…
problem I’m having is all my research says replace the trans temp sensor. I can’t find a place to order the sensor. Anyone have a part number? Thank you!!

upgrades…. Bellowed up pipes, 4” exhaust, Hydra tuner, edge competition kit (although I can’t get it to work yet), Efuel, regulated fuel return…. I’m sure I’m missing some
the previous owner put in two transmission coolers. One large, possible 6.0 cooler, and another small cooler maybe 10x12 inches.
this is the first time I’ve been able to see a digital read out of my trans temps…. I have an analogue gauge hooked to the test port I thought was inaccurate, highest I’ve ever seen it is like 140*. 99% of the time it doesn’t even hit the minimum reading of 100.
with the CTS3, I can see that while driving, my temps are only around 70 or lower, this was after a 10 minute idle warm up and another 15 minute drive into town. At idle the temp started to climb, hitting around 85*. Is it possible my shifting problems are a combination of bad temp sensor, and my fluid being too cool?
I'm far from an auto tranny guy, so take what I say with a grain of salt. I don't think the E4OD has a temp sensor. I say this because all the posts from people installing a transmission temp gauge involves adding a temp gauge probe in the test port. If the transmission came with a temp sensor, it seems to me that someone would have come up with something to read the trans temp without an add on temp gauge. Someone with more knowledge will be along with better info.
Yeah I’m a little unclear on that… I do believe it has one though, otherwise I wouldn’t be able to get a reading through the OBD port. Also the code is specifically pertinent to a temp sensor, so I do believe it’s in there…. Just shouldn’t be this hard to find the part! I’ll have to call the dealership when they open back up. I’ll likely just take it to a transmission shop and have them diagnose so I’m not wasting money on parts.
i agree with no trans temp sensor in an E4OD.
at least i have never seen one.
just because the cts is reading it does not mean it is a real reading.
i had a test tuner on the 02 that was showing EGT.... even though it did not have an EGT probe .
It would be a wild coincident that the obd reading is matching my aftermarket gauge, but I suppose anything is possible… hopefully Tuesday the transmission shop will be open and can get me in for diagnostics. I’m going to try to clean the connector first, it does look dirty. I had a cooler line pop off and drain my fluid driving a short distance about a month ago, might have damaged something but I also had this weird shifting before that happened.

If you don't know, why do you feel you have to answer?
The E4OD does have a temp sensor. It isn't a separate part, it is part of the solenoid body. You have to replace the solenoid body to replace the temperature sensor.
The P0713 code does not mean automatically replace the solenoid body. It means there is a problem with the temp reading that needs some diagnostics. In my experience, the problem is usually the wiring between the PCM and the trans connector. Once in a while it is a bad sensor, but that's pretty rare.
i will definitely be inspecting the wiring after the holiday. It’s pretty greasy around the connection and tss, it could use a cleaning.
I also suspect the tuning may play a big role in this. I don’t know what my tunes are exactly, I don’t have a laptop to hook it up to. When I run it on one setting, the shifting is obviously poor as described above. Holds onto 2nd gear until like 2400rpms unless I feather the throttle a bit, goes into third and immediately shifts again.
do you think I have any issues with over cooling? I read on some forums around 130 should be the minimum, but it’s very rare I hit that high… no idea what the previous owner was thinking when he installed two coolers, but probably towed heavy loads to justify the second cooler. Right now I don’t tow much, but will in the future.
My scan gauge reads trans temp. The little cooler sounds like the stock one that the previous owner left on and installed a 6.0 in addition to it. If it were me I would get rid of the stock cooler. In the past I think I remember Mark saying that's its not good to 'stack' coolers?
Ok I have a little bit more helpful information… now that I have the CTS3 monitor I can see exactly what gear I’m in.
in second gear it doesn’t shift until about 24-2500rpms. It then shifts into 3rd, rpms drop to about 1900, and a second later it feels like it’s shifting again, but it’s still in 3rd and RPMs drop a bit further. I shift into 4th just fine.
I will admit I’m very transmission naive. I can make my way around the engine compartment fairly well, but when it comes to transmissions I’m dumb. This could be completely normal, I don’t know. Any ideas? It’s $180 to diagnose at my local transmission shop, or about $250 just to drop the plan myself and swap in a John Woods valve body that should correct the temperature sensor and perhaps this shifting issue. I am confident I can get that done. I’d hate to spend $180 extra just to find out I need to do the $250 fix. Or does this sound like a torque converter problem, and could the two be correlated?
