On a single axle leaf spring trailer, how many bushings are there per side?
2 or 3?
i found a kit on amazon that is priced right, but it looks to me that it would be short 2 bushings. it comes with 4, but isnt there one at the top of the rear shackle where it attaches to the frame?
or am i wrong?
It seems to me that the kit you linked to is a shackle kit which includes only the shackles and corresponding bushings. Yes there are typically (2) bushings at both spring eyes (unless slipper style) and a 3rd at the shackle to frame mount.
That’s what I’m trying to figure out. I had it in my head that there should be a bushing at the top of the shackle.
I guess it isn’t that expensive to just get a couple more bushings. But to me there should be 6 bolts and 6 bushings. But I’ve not had one apart that far yet.
The video shows bushings at each end of the spring and no bushing on the frame bracket. That makes sense, since the bushing is creating the correct diameter in the spring eyes. If you had one in the frame bracket, I bet the hole is the right size for the bolt and not for the bolt plus a bushing, so a bushing installed there would have to be cut down and then would just cover the middle of the bolt.
A plastic(/nylon/polyunobtainium/etc.) bushing wouldn't last long under the heavy loading that is present at each hole in the frame bracket.
Seems like it should be three bushings for each side. When I upgraded to wet bolts on my two axle setup I had seven bolts/bushings. Eliminate the equalizer and that would be three bolts per axle.

I agree, I think it should be, but the video only showed two. It probably saves them $0.69 per package.
