Front Leaf Spring Bushings

Hey all, I have been having some thumping/bumping coming from my front end and I did my sway bar bushings, thinking that was the issue. It helped some but the bumping still remains. Based off of just driving around and listening I am beginning to think it is my leaf spring bushings that are disintegrating.

I am planning on jacking the truck up and putting it on jackstands then jacking the axle up and watching the axle to spring to frame connections and see what I can see. Outside of that are there any other good ways to test the leaf spring bushings?

If it does come down to doing the bushings, are there any that are recommended? I have been looking at the Energy Suspension kit but I am seeing a lot of reviews that say they are hard to install on F250's. Anybody have experience with them?

Thanks,

Baatzy

I'm in the same boat. Been clunking for 5 years now. I was told they need to be pressed out or in. So I just let it go. Hopefully will get some answers here.

It's possible it could be your trackbar bushings. Does it clunk when you go through a dip while turning or is it constant.

Commonly have a clunk on cracks and dips in the road on the driver side, sounds like it is coming from floorboards right beneath my feet. On the right side I have a kind of clunking grinding sound coming when I turn left.

Have you checked your spindle bearing on the hub? They can dry out and fail and the spindle shaft then moves around and cause a clunking sound.

Yeah, I have been in and out of the front axle about 12 times in the same amount of months. The sounds persists, completely unchanged, after every time.

Good thought though

I have the exact same clunk, but my leaf springs are brand new. I'm thinking it's the upper shackle bushings

I have the same clunk. I did all new leaf spring bushings, new shocks, and a steering gear box. Still no luck. I don't have a front sway bar. I'm thinking track bar next.

I am sure Tugly will be in on this as he has spent a hefty bit of time chasing these things. Me, I'm in the same boat. I am of the personal opinion that it is a symphony of noises that all act and sound similar. I have notice that as I have changed parts, the sound changes. I am currently at: drag link, stabilizer bar, front sway bar end links, shocks (all of them), ball joints replaced. I have tie-rod ends ready to replace when time/weather permits. My next parts for this issue will be the spring bushings (if not the springs themselves), rear sway bar end links, both sway bar bushings, pitman arm (for play in the steering not clunks). My springs creak and pop either way so they need attention. Beyond those, I don't know where else to chase them. Please let us know what you find with the jacking method you described.

I will try to report back on my test, but I am not sure on when I will be able to do the testing. I was really hoping to be able to do it today but I had a buddy that needed to have his starter replaced, so that occurred first.

I have not been able to fix, lessen, or change the noise noticeably through the other work I have been doing in the front end.

My last thought is the springs, they currently are a bit inverted and as far as I know they are originals. Like I said I haven't done any testing for the springs yet but from all my observations its gotta be the springs and their bushings.

Do any of you guys have a clunk upon take off/right before you come to a stop? I also have no sway bar. And I took my track bar off once and it still clunked

try lubing the splines on your rear driveshaft. once they get old you have to do it once a year or so

I have that grease and have done it numerous times, it's coming from the front end, not the rear. I'm going to try greasing the front slip joint cause I haven't done that one
