Montana...is 8mpg low for that truck? Is it normally higher? I know my 4x4 dodge only gets about 11-12 sinse I injected it. Carbed it only got 10. That was normal. Not being able to get over 60 though is a lack of fuel problem. I would change the filter, look at the rubber lines, if they are soft, replace them...if that won't do it then, you may need to do something with that carb.
i've had the truck for a year, and it's gotten me from A to B, usually without any major problems. i don't remember what my truck used to get when i first got it, but it seems like it was getting at least 11-12 mpg...would an exhaust leak at the manifold cause lower mileage? what would be a good 2bbl carb for the motor? i know i can get an adapter plate from cliffords for about 60 bucks, thinkin about doin that...anyway...any/all help is appreciated
No, an exhaust leak shouldn't lower your milage. I'm not up too well on mods for these but, I would start with the filter, maybe a tune-up and if that don't help, get a good "kit" and some cleaner and rebuild the carb that's on there. Make a day (or a weekend) out of it. A good kit can be had for about $15.00. A gal of cleaner about the same.
my truck is back in the shop the fuel line on tank one was clogged so i was using the rear tank with out knowing it and the water pup the timing and the tank selector and fuel pump are being replaced would a hard blow to a guard rail on the highway do that.
i'm eventually going to rebuild the motor that's currently in my truck and probably put a 2 bbl holley carb on it...an adapter plate is only about 60 bucks...a rebuild kit for my single barrel carb is about 30 bucks at napa or checker...a new stock replacement carb is 240 bucks...a 2bbl holley plus adapter plate is 250 bucks...all i need is the rebuilt motor...
