With that kind of change in mpgs and drivability that fast it sounds like carb trouble to me too, But I,m just a stupid mechanic (hehe) could be anything from this side of a computer.
it was the carb the truck is 100% better with a new carb but the idel moter don't work were is it located in the engine compartment and what dose it look like i know what it dose but thats it
as soon as i got it back some body put sugar in the rear tank now i got take it back to have it cleaned out (they pried the locking cap off)
Just thought I would ask considering that this thread about the fuel system is here. Does Ford make a plastic fuel tank? I know dodge does. (my old parked 81) the only rust problem it had was the steel ring on the top and if you greased it up good it would be fine for years.
Why would somebody do such a sugary thing! Damn people.
talk about years of neglect look at mine all new brakes, ball joints, steering seals, gas tank & straps, floor boards, front fenders, and a bunch of other stuff i cant think of right now lol all come up to about 900 in just parts + my time and work to put them on.
new problem came up at 65mph no fuel was being sent to the carb i pulled the line from the fuel pump when i got it home and no gas in the line turned the key and nothing came out the fuel gauge says over full but i think i ran out of gas so i put 2 gal to get it to a station and no go the truck brand new tank is the problem or my old equepment this tank had sugar in it for 3 yrs so i replaced and had the line blown out what happened
since we're talking about fuel systems and problems...i have a problem with my 84 F-150 4x4 300-6....
driving down the highway, with the pedal pegged to the floor, i'm lucky to clear 55 mph, and once in a long while, 60....when my truck is idling, i can smell fuel on the exhaust, and on hills of any decent length, i'm lucky to stay above 35 mph...
also...i'm lucky if i get 8 mpg outta my truck...
feel free to bounce any ideas off me that might help to get better speed
