You might want to ask the seller where he came up with that part number he is using in his listing as well as your other questions if you are interested. I can't answer that question since it's not my listing. For $9.99 plus a bit of shipping it's cheaper than the reproductions or most any aftermarket cap. I'll say I've never seen what was claimed to be an original truck with a locking release lever. The Parts catalogs are about replacement parts, not what they used on the assembly line necessarily. Often it was, but not always the case. I ignored the part number in that listing since there is no box anyway. What I got in hand looks and feels 100% legit and not a reproduction. I'm totally happy with my purchase. And I send stuff back in a blink if I'm not happy.
Larry wrote a bit of a restoration guide for the 1965-66 trucks but it's not at all about judging these trucks. I've never heard of a nationwide club for these trucks so there isn't any overall judging body of people that I know of like MCA has. Maybe there is but if so, they are keeping it a good secret.
Well, I bought one. It doesn't fit. It seems too tall for my 3/4" deep neck. Maybe he sent the wrong one, or maybe he didn't. I don't know because he will not respond to my query. It looks like a reproduction, complete with questionable characteristics. I also asked for some kind of proof that it is a FoMoCo part. Nothing. I saw the warning signs and bought it anyhow. I must admit that I kinda figured it would end badly but decided to give it a chance since it was less than $20. Was hoping that he would turn out to be legit so I'd have a good supplier. Nope.
By the way, I never meant to imply that the lever vent was original production. To my knowledge it's not. It was just a replacement option.
Well, it's been about a year and a half since I took a chance on what appeared to be a fake Ford radiator cap from eBay seller VintageAutoLiterature. Immediately had problems with it, but, not surprisingly, he wouldn't answer any messages. Ended up putting it on a tractor. I was working on that tractor the other day and noticed that that cap had already oxidized. I've never seen that happen so fast.
It took a couple of years but I found the radiator cap I've been looking for, the very elusive Ford 0L-8100-A, Rotunda R6-B, in the original box, NOS! I could not be happier. I have never found any photos of one on the Internet, so I'll get some posted here soon.
That's sticking to it and I'm glad you found what you were looking for! If you ever do have problems with any sellers on eBay, you can almost always get your money back and usually shipping covered by the seller when they are in the wrong as long as you have good standing with eBay you can initiate a return, and they will have your back. It's worked for me anytime I've had the need. It'll even offer a shipping label so it's just a matter of printing it out and putting in on the package and out it goes. Refunded by eBay once it's delivered.
Thanks, TA455HO. The problem with returning that cap was that I was 100 miles from the truck and it was past the return time limit by the time I got to it. Ebay has such a high percentage of counterfeits that I try not to order anything until I'm sure I'll be able to try it before the time limit comes up, but things happen and sometimes it doesn't work out. Returns are usually pretty easy at eBay but they should do more to prevent them in the first place.
