Radiator cap

I went down to my local parts store to get a new radiator cap today and they gave me a 13 lbs cap does that sound correct?

Its on a 1982 Ford F-250 351W

I was running a 17 lbs cap does it make a difference? Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks
Paul

The higher the pressure cap, the hotter the engine can run before it boils over. With no cap at all, it will boil over at approx 212 degrees, depending on your altitude. As you pressurize the system, this number goes up.

I don't know what the spec is on these trucks, but most newer vehicles run at least a 15 lb cap. You can run a lower pressure cap if your radiator is in poor shape. I have had some old cars that I ran 7lb caps in to make the old radiator last a little longer.
