Hi all,
1980 F150 drivers door issue...
The door closes and lines up fine but it seems as only the primary latch is working and the secondary latch (the one that holds the door tight) wont catch unless
you slam the door shut almost hard enough to break the glass. I thought the latch assembly inside the door was adjustable but that's not the case it seems.
Is there something that can be done with the pin mounted on the B-pillar? Sick of the rattle the door makes when driving down the road...
Thanks
you can adjust the door latch on the pillar, the door itself I don't know about adjusting. Mine was starting to act that way and I sprayed penetrating oil into the door assembly and it has been good since.
You can only do so much with the rattle if the weatherstripping is shot. Mine rattled until I replaced the rubber.
As dusty said if the weather strip is bad there is not much you can do but .....
The pin the latch closes around can be adjusted up / down and in / out.
You can try and adjust it out a little to see if it will catch the 2nd latch.

Look at your pin. Does it have plastic around it? Most do not anymore. Take a piece of pex plumbing pipe, cut it to length and then slit it down the side. Spread it open so it goes around the pin. I bet it fixes your problem. I think I used 1/2 pex.
Thanks All!
I will look into adjusting the pin/peg and wrapping it with some 1/2" pex from a 50' roll I have in my sea can.
As for the door seal - yeah, it's on the list for replacement spring.
Appreciate the advice everyone.
use the plastic collar first. if that fixes it you don't to adjust striker pin. if it doesn't then adjust it outward a little, but do the collar first. yiyr pin may be lined up
