I have been working on my 1949 Ford F2 Pickup for a few weeks, and I'm excited about it. My question is, What is this bracket in the center, just beneath the windshield? The antenna is on the far side. I see the extra holes for a right side windshield wiper. There are holes on the left side of windshield for a spot light. There are no holes anywhere else around the windshield, no evidence that there was ever a visor above the windshield. Any help will be appreciated!
Hard to say what some crazy old man thought was a good idea at the time. A visor brace bracket is as good a guess as any, but with no other holes to support that theory, your guess is as good as mine. If it were me, it would go away pronto and the holes would be welded shut, and no further sleep would be lost.
On the plus side, your windshield frame looks nice and clean and solid. No visible rust out.
I wonder how many things I've seen on these trucks involved alcohol at the onset. "Hey I have an idea--let me drill two big holes right down through the sheet metal of my cab right above all of my electrical connections and my own legs so I can mount this gizmo and stick two big flathead screws down the holes. It'll never leak, and my friends won't make fun of me either when they see it."
