I had to replace the ignition pick up coil/stator in the truck and I'm trying to educate myself on the reluctor.
Everything I read states- note the orientation of the reluctor, mark it and reinstall the same.
Why does this matter? I don't see anything special or different on the reluctor. None of the teeth/gears look different from one another.
There is the stamping, is it relevant in the positioning?
The only thing I see that is important is just lining it up for the rollpin.
Seems to me that as long as one of the teeth is lined up with the stator it should just work?
I don't remember, can you put it on upside down? If you can, and the roll pin was not directly aligned with a tooth on the wheel, that would offset the tooth one way or the other. But you can't put it on upside down right?

No, this one does not look like it would like being upside down.
From my post over in the 86 sub, I think the only thing that matters is , putting the pin back in and like stated over there, it will run and idle seemingly normal even without the pin.
I'm surprised at how well it was idling and revving with no rollpin installed. So it made me wonder why it's been stated to mark the orientation before removing and reinstall the same way.
