I have a 76, F 350, 460 with OEM ignition. The white plastic connecter that slides over the posts on the factory coil is cracked and I'm not satisfied with using tape/wire ties, etc. to make sure it stays attached. I see that most of the replacement coils have the OEM-type posts that fit this type of connector. I would like to get a coil that has threaded lugs and nuts. When I see coils like this, most say they're for use with some other brand ignition system, e.g., Crane, MSD, etc. If the plastic connector is available, I guess I'd go back to OEM set up, but personnally, I think the threaded post makes for a better connection. Would someone please recommend a coil that will allow me to get rid of the plastic connector. Thanks
The white plastic connecter that slides over... the ...coil is cracked...
{and they're ugly too!;}
I think the threaded post makes for a better connection.
I thought the same thing and got a -better- coil in the process. :)
Doggonit I haven't got time right now to find the part number for
you. :/ I've been working on it but ran out of time...
Standard Motor Products makes one that has threaded terminals.
The clip on terminal one is FD-476.
You know the plastic part can be cut to pieces with dikes/pliers
and the bare clips "used as is" in the meantime.
Find the part number and post it and I'll write the sucker down for
same use next time? ;)
Thanks for the quick reply, Alvin. Local NAPA store said he could have the plastic connecter in his store Friday morning--$6.08. That solution will get me going again. As far as I know there's nothing wrong with the coil, but will check it again while I'm working on it.
